Inter complete signing of Vieira

Juve have made a £7.2m loss on Patrick Vieira

France midfielder Patrick Vieira signed a four-year contract with Inter Milan on Wednesday in a $12.12 million transfer from Juventus.

The 30-year-old former Arsenal player will be presented to the media at Inter's training ground at 5 p.m. (1500 GMT), the club said.

Juventus -- which paid Arsenal $23.1 million for Vieira one season ago -- said Inter would pay the transfer fee over three years. The Turin club has lost many of its stars players since being demoted to Serie B in Italy's match-fixing scandal.

Vieira "is very motivated, but at the same time sorry for what happened to Juventus, a club in which he had settled in very well," agent Franco Granello told the Apcom news agency.

Granello said Vieira cited financial reasons for leaving Juve.

"Vieira chose Inter because the club made the most important offer both from a contractual point of view and from the point of view of its plans," Granello said.

Granello acknowledged that Real Madrid had expressed interest in Vieira but at an advanced stage in the negotiations with Inter.

Juventus was relegated and stripped of its last two titles in the scandal. Third-place Inter was declared Serie A champion last week because it was the highest-ranked team not implicated in the case.

Juventus has already lost Gianluca Zambrotta, Lilian Thuram, Emerson and Fabio Cannavaro. Defenders Zambrotta and Thuram moved to FC Barcelona. Midfielder Emerson and defender Cannavaro joined former Juventus coach Fabio Capello at Real Madrid.
