William Gallas could be the key to Ashley Cole joining Chelsea, according to newspaper reports on Monday.
The Daily Express claims a deal has been agreed to take the Frenchman, who has made no secret of his desire to leave Stamford Bridge, to Arsenal as part of a.£20 million swap deal..
However, the Daily Mirror suggests otherwise, saying Arsene Wenger tabled a £5 million offer for Gallas but was told Chelsea have no interest in selling him, even though he is in the final year of his contract.
Elsewhere it's claimed Cole will seal his dream move this week, with Wayne Bridge, who played left-back against Manchester City on Sunday, set to follow Damien Duff by leaving Chelsea for Newcastle in a £4 million deal.
Cole is reportedly due £1 million in bonuses from Arsenal but the club want Chelsea's fee to cover these payments with the player unwilling to waive the money which is contractually owed to him.
Arsenal also want an extra £500,000 for every trophy Chelsea win this season and although the Blues had refused to budge on their £16 million offer, it now appears that a compromise has been reached, according to the Daily Mail.
